POM POM lap quilt

When I first saw Pom Pom by French General I fell in love with the colors and the delicate and feminine prints. Since I had no idea what I was going to make with it (and don't we all just HAVE to have fabric we love?) I ordered a Layer Cake at www.fatquartershop.com .

The most logical thing that came to my mind was to explore the fact that the fabric came all cut out. (Yay! no hassling with the rotary cutter). I arranged the pieces as well as I could since there was no method in the prints and colors that came in the layer cake.

I can't say that I'm too pleased with the end result since I like a more organised and repetitive layout, but it came out ok.

I sewed the pieces together and am planning in turning it into a lap quilt. I'm sure that it will look lovely, but I'm already deciding which prints I like best so that I can order some extra yardage for further sewing.

SEWING A TUNIC

It took me ages, but I finally finished
sewing my first clothing item:

I MADE THIS TUNIC!!!!!!

I bought the pattern at Sew, Mama, Sew, http://www.sewmamasew.com/store/ecom-catshow/PTDOWNLOAD.html
and followed the instructions
very carefully.
I was amazed at how easy
and accurate the instructions are.
Great pattern!

This is how it came out:

But I have to confess:
I couldn't have done it without
the help of mama's little helper:

Tinkerbell was there all the time
and all over!!!

FREE MOTION QUILTING

I decided to learn how to do
 free motion quilting.
It's really a challenge for me.

I signed up for it at Kikikits
and the nicest thing about it,
aside from learning how to do it,
of course, is that we're going to have
a book with all the designs we're making.

Check the results of my first assignment.
(below)
I won't say that I'm proud of it,
but it's a start and hey,
practice makes perfect, right?

Although I don't aspire perfection,
at least a bit better it will get
(I hope, hehe).

TINKERBELL

Check out this new addition to our family:

Her name is SININHO,
which is the Brazilian name
for the Disney character Tinkerbell.
Isn't she the cutest?

She's three months old and
is battery operated (just kidding).
It's just that she is so
hyperactive that it is very hard
to take pics of her.
Do the photos give you any idea
of how small she is?
Yes, she is very tiny.

I adopted her from a NGO,
since she was abandoned
with 5 siblings at the
doorsteps of a pet shop.

Luckily good people do
some very humane work.
Sininho found herself
a loving and caring Mum.

ZIPPIE for my sewing machine stuff

So the title says it all.
I was planning on using this zippie
for some toiletries in my bag,
but the bag that contained my
sewing machine parts got torn,
so this is an emergency solution.

I adapted it using this great

PINK ZIPPIES

Have I already told you I love pink?

And I'm really excited about
my newly conquered skill:
sewing zippers.

So zippies it is!!!

BOM by Among the Gum Trees

This is the first time I am participating
in a group work.
The first block is beautiful
and judging by the work
of the designers I'm sure
it will look great once it's assembled.

I am very excited to start
on this project. Check the details
at gumtree-designers.com.
